1. Introduction & Scope
ExamVeer ("ExamVeer", "we", "us", or "our") provides a mobile application that helps users prepare for Indian government recruitment examinations through quizzes, multiplayer battles, timed competitions, study groups, job alerts, admit-card and result notifications, eligibility checking, prep roadmaps, streaks, leaderboards and a premium subscription (collectively, the "Service").
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the ExamVeer Android app (package
com.examveer.app), our website at shubhsandes.com, and any related
services, and how we use, share, retain, and protect it. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to
the practices described here.
2. Who We Are (Data Controller)
ExamVeer is operated from India. For the purposes of applicable data-protection laws (including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the EU/UK GDPR where it applies), the data controller is the entity that publishes the ExamVeer app on Google Play. You can reach our team using the details in the Contact Us section.
3. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide directly, information collected automatically as you use the Service, and information from third parties (such as authentication providers).
3.1 Information you provide directly
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account & identity | Full name, email address, mobile number, password (stored as a salted hash), date of birth, gender, profile photo, one-time password (OTP) entered during phone/email verification. |
| Profile for exam eligibility | Education history (qualifications, board/university, year, marks), employment history, caste/category (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) where you choose to enter it for eligibility filters, identity details (e.g. state, domicile), physical attributes where required by an exam form (height, chest, weight, vision), address (state, district, pincode), and prep preferences (subjects, target exams). |
| User-generated content | Messages, attachments and reactions you post in Study Groups; quiz answers and notes; referral codes you share; help-desk requests; reviews and feedback. |
| Subscription & billing | Records of purchases of the Premium subscription. Payments are processed by Google Play Billing — we receive only the purchase token, product ID and order status, never your card or bank details. |
3.2 Information collected automatically
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Device & technical | Device model, manufacturer, Android OS version, app version, language, time zone, network type, crash and ANR reports, performance metrics, IP address. |
| Usage & learning data | Quiz attempts, scores, time per question, accuracy by subject/topic, battle and competition results, leaderboard positions, streak progress, study-group activity, jobs and admit cards you view, eligibility checks you run, screens visited and features used. |
| Push-notification tokens | Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) registration token, which is used to deliver push notifications such as battle invites, exam alerts, admit-card and result updates. The token is registered on login and unregistered on logout. |
| Connectivity diagnostics | The app periodically pings connectivitycheck.gstatic.com to detect whether your device has internet access so that we can show an offline banner. No personal data is sent in these pings. |
| Real-time session data | Socket connection identifiers used to power live Battles and Group chat (we rely on Socket.IO). |
3.3 Information from third parties
- Google Play — purchase status of the Premium subscription, including whether your subscription is active, on hold, paused or cancelled.
- Firebase — delivery receipts for push notifications and aggregated crash diagnostics.
- Referrers — if you sign up using a referral code, we associate your account with the referring user for reward attribution.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service — create and authenticate your account, deliver quizzes/battles/competitions, run study groups, show jobs/admit cards/results, and personalise content to your target exam and preferences.
- Check eligibility — match your education, age, category and physical attributes against the criteria of exams you are interested in, on-device or on our servers.
- Send notifications — deliver push notifications about exam alerts, admit-card releases, result updates, battle invites, leaderboard milestones and account activity. You can disable notifications from your device settings at any time.
- Process subscriptions — verify your Premium entitlement with Google Play and unlock paid features.
- Improve and secure the Service — analyse usage and crash data to fix bugs and improve features, detect cheating in battles and competitions, prevent fraud, abuse and spam, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- Communicate with you — respond to support requests, send service announcements, and (with your consent where required) marketing or product updates.
- Comply with the law — meet legal, regulatory, tax and law-enforcement obligations applicable to us.
Legal bases (where GDPR/UK GDPR applies)
- Contract — to deliver the Service you have signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud, and improve product quality.
- Consent — for optional permissions such as push notifications, and for marketing where required.
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable laws.
5. Device Permissions We Request
ExamVeer requests only the minimum set of Android permissions needed for its features:
| Permission | Why we need it |
|---|---|
INTERNET | Communicate with our servers and load quiz content, leaderboards, jobs and real-time battles. |
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Detect whether you are online or offline so we can show the offline banner and queue actions safely. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+) | Show push notifications for exam alerts, admit cards, results and battle invites. You can decline this and use the app without notifications. |
VIBRATE | Provide haptic feedback in quizzes and battles (e.g. on correct/incorrect answers). |
We do not request access to your contacts, SMS, call logs, microphone, camera, location, files or photos.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:
- With other users, by your action — your display name, avatar, leaderboard rank, battle history, study-group messages and attachments are visible to other users you interact with in those features. Do not post information you do not want others to see.
- With service providers (processors) who help us run the Service under contractual data-protection terms — currently:
- Cloud hosting and database providers that store your account and content.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — push-notification delivery.
- Google Play Billing — payment processing for Premium.
- Crash and performance monitoring tools.
- For legal reasons — to comply with a valid court order, subpoena, statutory request or law-enforcement demand; to protect our rights, property and safety, or that of our users or the public; or to investigate potential violations of our Terms of Service.
- In a business transfer — if ExamVeer is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganisation or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
- With your consent — for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time we ask.
7. Third-Party Services
Our app integrates the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs the data they process about you:
- Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics, Analytics)
- Google Play Billing
- Google LLC (connectivity check endpoint, Play Services)
Links to external websites or partner platforms shown inside the app (for example, official government recruitment portals) are provided for convenience. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those external sites.
8. Local Storage & Cookies
The ExamVeer app uses on-device storage (Android AsyncStorage and MMKV) to remember your
login token, preferences, offline quiz packs and cached content. Our website at shubhsandes.com
may use essential cookies for session management and aggregated analytics. You can clear app data from your Android
settings at any time; doing so will sign you out.
9. Data Retention
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy:
- Account & profile data — kept until you delete your account, after which it is erased or anonymised within 30 days (subject to legal holds).
- Quiz, battle and competition history — kept for as long as your account is active so we can show your progress and leaderboard standing. Anonymised aggregates may be retained indefinitely for product analytics.
- Group chat messages — retained while the group exists; deleted within 90 days of group deletion.
- Payment records — retained for the period required by Indian tax and accounting law (currently 8 years).
- Crash logs and diagnostics — retained for up to 90 days.
- Backup copies — encrypted backups may take up to 90 additional days to expire after primary deletion.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including:
- TLS (HTTPS) encryption for all data in transit between the app and our servers.
- Password hashing with a modern salted algorithm — we never store passwords in plain text.
- Access controls and the principle of least privilege for our internal systems.
- Code obfuscation (R8/ProGuard) and secure release-signing for the Android app.
- Regular dependency updates and review of third-party SDKs.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we become aware of a personal-data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by law.
11. Children's Privacy
If you are between 13 and 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), you may use ExamVeer only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, who is responsible for reviewing this Privacy Policy on your behalf. In India, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, requires verifiable parental consent before processing the personal data of a child (under 18). Where applicable, ExamVeer requires such consent before enabling features that process child users' data.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at mail@shubhsandes.com and we will promptly delete it.
12. International Data Transfers
ExamVeer is operated from India. If you access the Service from outside India, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in India or in any other country where our service providers operate. We rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or the recipient country's adequacy status, where required) to protect your information during such transfers.
13. Your Rights & Choices
Subject to applicable law, you have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to fix data that is inaccurate or incomplete. You can also edit most profile fields directly inside the app under Profile → Edit.
- Deletion — ask us to delete your account and associated data (see Section 14).
- Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Restriction / Objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
- Marketing opt-out — opt out of promotional communications by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or turning off marketing notifications in app settings.
- Lodge a complaint — you have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority (in India, the Data Protection Board; in the EU/UK, your national supervisory authority).
To exercise any of these rights, email us at mail@shubhsandes.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will respond within the time frame required by law (typically 30 days).
14. Account & Data Deletion
You can delete your ExamVeer account at any time in two ways:
- From inside the app — open Settings → Account → Delete Account and confirm.
- By email — send a deletion request from your registered email address to mail@shubhsandes.com with the subject line "Delete my account".
When you delete your account, your profile, quiz history, battle records, group memberships and chat messages authored by you, and your FCM token are removed from our active systems within 30 days. Encrypted backups expire within a further 90 days. Some information may be retained for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution purposes for the period required by law.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our Service, technology, legal requirements or business practices. When we make material changes, we will notify you in-app or by email at least 7 days before the changes take effect, and we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of ExamVeer after the new policy becomes effective constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
16. Contact Us
If you have any questions, concerns or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us:
